A juvenile male died in a rollover crash early Monday after he was pinned under a pickup in South Anchorage, police said.
The crash near Golden View Drive took place around 2:30 a.m. and involved a juvenile driver with two juvenile passengers, police said.
The driver of the Ford F-350 told emergency dispatchers that one of his passengers was under the vehicle. A call from the truck came in around 2:40 a.m. near the 6000 block of Bluebell Drive, and was followed by another 911 call several minutes later from the same area.
Officers found the boy beneath the upside-down pickup, according to police. Anchorage Fire Department medics declared him dead at the scene, police said. Another juvenile passenger was not injured, they said.
The crash happened on a curve and the “truck struck a guardrail, rolled down an embankment and came to rest against a tree,” police spokeswoman Shelly Wozniak said.
Criminal charges pertaining to the incident have been forwarded to the Division of Juvenile Justice, police said.
Few additional details were available about the collision including how old the juveniles involved were, or whether they were wearing seat belts. Wozniak said “the dynamics of the collision are still under investigation.”
