Man seriously injured in East Anchorage shooting

A man was seriously injured in an East Anchorage shooting early Sunday, police said.

Officers responded around 2:25 a.m. to the Circle K gas station at Boniface Parkway and Northern Lights Boulevard for a report of a shooting, the Anchorage Police Department said in an online update.

When they arrived, officers found a man who had been shot at least once in the lower body, and medics took him to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said they had detained a suspect who was taken in for questioning by detectives. No charges have been filed as of Sunday morning, police said, and neither the shooting victim nor the person described as a suspect were identified by police in the update.

The circumstances around the shooting, believed to be an isolated incident, are under investigation, police said. Additional details about the shooting weren’t included in the police update.

Police asked anyone with surveillance footage from the area or additional information about the incident to call dispatch at 311 (option 1) or 907-786-8900 (option 0), or — to remain anonymous — contact Crime Stoppers online at anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
