A woman crossing a busy Midtown Anchorage road on Tuesday afternoon was struck and critically injured by a pickup, police said.
The woman, who has not been identified, was crossing West Benson Boulevard near Dawson Street when she was hit by a GMC Sierra traveling east on Benson, according to the Anchorage Police Department. The reports of the incident came in just after 3:45 p.m., they said.
The woman was transported to a hospital by fire department medics for what were believed to be life-threatening injuries, police said.
The driver remained on scene and has been cooperative with the investigation, they said. No charges had been filed.
Twelve pedestrians have been killed by vehicles in Anchorage so far this year, half of them this month.
