Human remains found at construction site near Anchorage’s Ship Creek, police say

Anchorage police are investigating after human remains were found at a construction site Monday near Ship Creek.

Anchorage police said in a statement that the remains were reported at a construction site around 12:30 p.m. Monday in the 1300 block of North Post Road, in an industrial area within the Ship Creek corridor.

On Monday afternoon, a police crime scene van was seen north of Ship Creek and west of North Post Road, south of Whitney Road. Yellow police tape was visible near a wooded area at a distance behind the van.

The Alaska State Medical Examiner will identify the remains and determine the cause of death, police said.

An Anchorage police spokesperson said Tuesday that the department did not have any further information to release — such as how the remains were discovered or how long they may have been there — until the State Medical Examiner Office conducts its investigation.
