Midtown Anchorage pedestrian struck by pickup and killed

A man crossing Northern Lights Boulevard in Midtown Anchorage late Thursday was struck by a pickup truck and killed, police said.

The truck was westbound near Eagle Street just before 10:30 p.m. when it struck a man crossing outside of any crosswalk, police said. He was declared dead at the scene.

“The driver remained on scene and has been cooperative with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time,” police said.

Northern Lights between Seward Highway and Denali Street was reopened about 2 a.m.

At least four pedestrians were struck by vehicles in the past week closer to downtown Anchorage.

A woman was struck by a pickup on Fifth Avenue at Karluk Street early Saturday. She died at the scene.

A pickup truck hit two men who were crossing Gambell Street near 15th Avenue on Sunday evening. One pedestrian initially was said to have life-threatening injuries but is expected to survive, said police spokeswoman Renee Oistad. The other man was brought to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Early Thursday morning, a woman was struck by a cargo van while she was walking across Fifth Avenue at Ingra Street. She was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, police said.

In all the collisions, drivers remained at the scene, police said. No charges had been filed as of Thursday in any of the collisions.
