Rain will continue Thursday in Anchorage area as another storm hits Southcentral Alaska

Rain and freezing rain were falling in the Anchorage area Thursday morning and will transition to all rain through the day, the National Weather Service says.

The latest in a series of storms rolling through Southcentral Alaska this week will leave only a little fresh snow in the city by Friday morning, the forecast says. Temperatures in Anchorage will climb into the upper 30s on Thursday.

Anchorage schools, closed Wednesday due to road conditions, will be open Thursday on a parent-teacher conference schedule.

In the Matanuska Valley, the latest storm will also deliver rain and up to 10 more inches of snow, with the highest totals northeast of Palmer, according to a Weather Service winter weather advisory.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District will keep school buildings closed for a second day in a row due to dangerous driving conditions. However, Glacier View School in Chickaloon will be open, the district says.

Hatcher Pass Road was closed Monday at Mile 11 due to increasing avalanche danger and will remain closed through the weekend. Twenty inches of fresh snow was recorded in the area by Thursday morning, according to the Hatcher Pass Avalanche Center.
