Bean’s Cafe donation center moves behind Van’s Dive Bar near downtown Anchorage

The Bean’s Cafe donation center has moved from its location on East Third Avenue to 1020 E. Fourth Ave. in downtown Anchorage.

The donation center, housed in a gray building with maroon trim, has been operating from its new location for about a month, said Cassie Cowan, Bean’s Cafe human resource manager. Access to the donation dropoff is via West Fifth Avenue, between Lucky Wishbone and Van’s Dive Bar.

Boxes of canned corn, green beans and other nonperishable items donated this week were stacked on the floor at the new donation center Thursday afternoon.

They have currently stopped taking perishable donations due to spacing limitations as they continue to transition between locations.

The donation center is always in need of breakfast items such as individual oatmeal packages, shelf-stable milk, peanut butter and hash browns, Cowan said. In addition to food items, the donation center is also seeking clothing items such as socks, gloves and hats.

Donations are closed Dec. 24 and 31 but can be made between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday next week.
