Man hurt in shooting at Spenard home, Anchorage police say

A man was taken to the hospital with injuries after a shooting Saturday morning at a residence in Anchorage’s Spenard neighborhood, police said.

No arrests have been made so far in the investigation, Anchorage police said in an alert Saturday.

Police said officers responded at 8:16 a.m. Saturday to home in the 1300 block of West 39th Avenue, southeast of the intersection of West 36th Avenue and Minnesota Drive.

“Initial indications are that a group of people were inside the home when some type of altercation between them occurred, and a shot was fired,” police said. “The adult male victim, and one other member of the group, left in a vehicle and then called authorities from a nearby location.”

The man, who had an injury to his lower body, was taken to the hospital and was expected to survive, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Police said that while the incident is still being investigated, they believe that those involved knew one another and that there is no public safety threat.

There will be a temporary police presence in the area while a crime scene team processes the scene, police said.
