A motorcyclist died early Wednesday in a collision with a car on the Seward Highway in Midtown Anchorage, police said.
Officers were called to the highway between Benson Boulevard and 36th Avenue at 3:17 a.m. on a report of a crash with injuries, police wrote in an online statement.
Investigators believe the motorcycle was driving north in the southbound lanes when it struck a southbound sedan, police said.
The motorcyclist was brought to a hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.
The driver of the sedan cooperated with the investigation, police said. No arrests were immediately made.
The Seward Highway closed at the intersection for several hours after the crash but reopened around 8:15 a.m., police said.
This is the second motorcycle fatality in the city this week. On Sunday evening, a man died when he lost control of his motorcycle in a roundabout at O’Malley Road and C Street.
