Man dies after pickup truck crashes through several backyard fences, Anchorage police say

A man died Wednesday night after his pickup truck crashed through several backyard fences in Anchorage’s Abbott Loop neighborhood, police said.

Officers were called to the 8700 block of Spruce Brook Street at 9:51 p.m., police wrote in an online statement. Police said the driver had been eastbound on East 88th Street from Lake Otis Parkway before the crash.

On Thursday morning, tire marks remained on East 88th Avenue leading past the stop sign at the intersection with Little Brook Street, into a wooden fence and backyard. At least one other fence appeared to be damaged by the collision.

The driver died at the scene, police said. A passenger seemed unharmed but was transported to a hospital for evaluation, police said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the truck to crash and police said the investigation is ongoing. Police asked anyone with surveillance footage from the area to call dispatch at 311.
