Two people were killed overnight in Anchorage in separate collisions with vehicles, and police said one involved a driver who fled the scene, police said Saturday.
The first happened late Friday in East Anchorage near Alaska Regional Hospital. Police heard a report of a woman lying in the street on DeBarr Road near Airport Heights Drive shortly after 11 p.m., police reported. She was declared dead at the scene, police said.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that the female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene after the collision,” police wrote. No arrests had been made as of Saturday morning, and police were asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has information about it to contact police dispatch at 311.
The second collision happened just before 3 a.m. in West Anchorage at the intersection of Minnesota Drive and Spenard Road, where a man was hit by a vehicle, police said. He died while being taken to the hospital, police said. In that case, police said, the driver remained on the scene and was cooperating with police.
