Head-on crash kills woman in Midtown Anchorage Sunday

A woman died after a vehicle crossed the median and hit her vehicle head on Sunday morning, Anchorage police said.

The woman was northbound on Ingra Street just past Fireweed Lane when a southbound vehicle entered the northbound lane and the vehicles collided head on around 7:15 a.m., police wrote in an online statement. The woman who had been driving north died at the scene and the other driver was brought to the hospital, police said. Her condition was unknown.

Police said no one else was in either of the vehicles. The circumstances of the crash were not immediately clear and police said the investigation is ongoing. Police asked anyone with information or video of the crash to call dispatch at 311.

Roads surrounding the crash closed for several hours Sunday morning but fully reopened in the afternoon.
