A pedestrian crossing the Glenn Highway on Thursday evening near Airport Heights Drive was struck and killed by a vehicle, police say.
The person, who has not been identified, was not in a crosswalk at the time, according to an Anchorage Police Department update late Thursday. The driver of the 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 involved in the incident remained at the scene.
No additional information was immediately available.
The combination of months of nighttime darkness and heavy traffic has led to pedestrian deaths in Anchorage for years. In the last decade, between two and 10 people have been killed in collisions with vehicles in the city, according to police data.
The southbound Glenn Highway was closed for several hours as police investigated.
