Man hit and killed by vehicle after he was seen stumbling on the Glenn Highway near Fort Richardson

A man is dead after he was hit by a driver early Sunday on the Glenn Highway in East Anchorage east of Muldoon Road. Drivers reported he had been stumbling on the freeway.

Anchorage police said the driver was cooperating with officers. As of around 7:30 a.m., all inbound lanes were open, after being closed or reduced for hours.

Police said a caller reported seeing a man stumbling along the highway’s shoulder at 2:11 a.m.

“A few minutes later, before officers arrived on scene, another citizen called APD Dispatch and stated he had hit a male who was in the roadway on the Glenn,” police said in a written statement. “Other motorists also stopped and began CPR on the pedestrian. Medics took over once they arrived on scene; the pedestrian was declared deceased shortly thereafter. The involved driver stayed on scene and is being cooperative with police.”

The collision happened on the inbound lanes near the power plant, east of Muldoon Road.

Neither the man killed nor the driver had been identified as of early Sunday.
