Police are looking for public tips to help identify a man whose remains were found Sunday off Campbell Airstrip Road in Far North Bicentennial Park.
The remains were reported around 6:30 p.m. Sunday by someone whose dog found them in the woods near the Bivouac trailhead, according to an Anchorage Police Department update Wednesday morning.
The State Medical Examiner Office determined the skull is that of a man who had extensive dental work, police said. It’s not clear what caused his death or whether any foul play was involved, said MJ Thim, a spokesman for the Anchorage Police Department.
Thim said detectives will be investigating whether the rest of the man’s remains are in the area, but because of heavy snow cover they may have to wait until warmer weather to search. Investigators haven’t yet found any personal items or other signs that people have been in the area, Thim said.
Anyone who might have information about the man’s identity should call 311 and select option 1, police said.
