Downtown Anchorage restaurant Glacier BrewHouse evacuated after kitchen fire

Glacier Brewhouse, a downtown Anchorage restaurant, was evacuated due to a kitchen fire Friday evening.

The Anchorage Fire Department was notified of the fire around 8 p.m., according to Cleo Hill, spokeswoman for the department. By the time firefighters responded the restaurant had been evacuated. There were no injuries. The fire was under control by 8:40 p.m., Hill said.

Speaking at the site of the fire, Captain Richard Minkler with Fire Station 1 said the fire started in a stove hood in the kitchen and made its way into the roof.

Heather Bartlett, a supervisor at Glacier Brewhouse, said on Saturday that there was "almost no damage" to the restaurant. Glacier Brewhouse was closed Saturday afternoon but the tentatively planned to reopen at 5 p.m. Saturday, Bartlett said, depending on whether the restaurant had received a new fan and fuse for the kitchen. The restaurant will be open again on Sunday for lunch and dinner, she said.
