Meet the next Star, 7th in a line of reindeer living in downtown Anchorage

Albert Whitehead brought a new Star the Reindeer to downtown Anchorage on Monday. The last Star, the sixth, died in September at 15 1/2 years old.

"There's been a Star in town since 1960,"  Whitehead said.

The new Star is about 14 months old and but just weeks old when his mother died suddenly.  "He likes to be around people," Whitehead said.

Denise Hardy of the Reindeer Farm in Butte said Whitehead and Star "had a connection from the beginning so it's a perfect match."

People can meet Star during an event with Mayor Ethan Berkowitz in Town Square Park at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
