Details emerge in deadly Anchorage collisions

Anchorage police have identified the two people killed early Saturday in separate vehicle collisions on the Glenn Highway and Gambell Street, both of which remain under investigation.

Chugiak resident Robin Poole, 49, was declared dead at the scene of the Glenn Highway crash between Boniface Parkway and Bragaw Street, police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in a statement. Officers responded around 12:15 a.m. to that crash, which left the other driver, Alexander Selzer, with minor injuries.

"Selzer was driving a (Chevrolet) Suburban on the inbound lanes of the Glenn Highway when he veered to the right, striking the guardrail," Oistad wrote. "The Suburban then crossed all inbound lanes, went through the median becoming airborne, and then landed on a Ford sedan which was traveling in the outbound lanes of the Glenn. The Suburban apparently rolled after striking the Ford."

Poole's sedan veered into a ditch after being struck, Oistad said. Both she and Selzer, who showed no signs of impairment, were the only occupants of their vehicles.

Hours later, police responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash along Gambell Street that killed 26-year-old Ian Glynn. The collision, in Gambell's southbound lanes roughly a quarter-mile north of Fireweed Lane, was reported to police just before 3 a.m. Glynn had been struck by a Chevrolet sedan driven by 22-year-old Naila Halilic, police said.

"Glynn was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision; according to witnesses he was skateboarding in the roadway when he was struck," Oistad wrote. "Halilic continued southbound on Gambell and then turned east on Fireweed Lane. She parked her car and walked back to the scene where she made contact with officers."

Glynn was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.

Officers arrested Halilic on an outstanding warrant unrelated to the collision and impounded her vehicle, Oistad said.

Neither Selzer nor Halilic had been charged in connection with the wrecks Tuesday afternoon. Oistad wasn't able to answer additional questions about the crashes Tuesday.

The families of the victims have been notified.
