A Valdez man died Monday morning when he lost control of his vehicle on an icy stretch of the Glenn Highway near Eureka Summit, Alaska State Troopers said.
Justin Hoppe, 49, lost control around Mile 134 of the highway and rolled into a ditch just before 11 a.m., troopers said. He died at the scene, they said.
Hoppe’s body was brought to to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy, troopers said.
Eureka Summit is the highest point on the Glenn Highway at just over 3,300 feet in elevation. As of Tuesday morning, the Alaska Department of Transportation’s travel information site reported an icy glaze on the highway in the area near the rollover.
