An Anchorage man and woman died Wednesday in a head-on collision on the Seward Highway near the Sterling Highway interchange, Alaska State Troopers said.
Leonard Weimer Jr., 57, was driving a Chevrolet pickup north near Mile 38 of the highway when he lost control and entered the southbound lane and collided with a motor home just before 6 p.m., troopers said. Black ice was reported in the area, they said.
Weimer and 56-year-old Kelly Brown died at the scene, troopers said. No one else was in the truck. A man who was driving the motor home suffered minor injuries and declined treatment by medics at the scene, they said. There were no passengers in the motor home, according to a troopers spokesman.
The bodies of Weimer and Brown were sent to the State Medical Examiner Office, troopers said.
The highway was closed in both directions for about three hours.
