A 67-year-old man died Wednesday night when he lost control of his car on an icy stretch of the Richardson Highway near Glennallen, Alaska State Troopers said.
Warren McDaniel, of Copper Center, was southbound in a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria near Mile 105 just before 8:15 p.m. when he lost control while trying to pass another vehicle, troopers said.
McDaniel’s car went into the ditch and struck trees, they said. He died at the scene. No one else was in his car.
McDaniel’s next of kin was notified of his death and troopers said his body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage.
Portions of the Richardson Highway remained icy Friday. The Department of Transportation described highway conditions near Glennallen as fair, with a frosted surface, icy patches and snow on the roadway. Visibility in the area was reduced as snow dust was resuspended.
