Anchorage teen dies while fishing along the Kenai River, troopers say

An Anchorage teenager died while fishing on the Kenai River on Monday afternoon, Alaska State Troopers said.

Jacob Wasielewski, 18, was fishing on the opposite side of the river from Bing’s Landing with a group of friends when he fell and was pulled downriver by the current around 12:30 p.m., troopers spokesman Austin McDaniel said.

People in a nearby boat pulled Wasielewski out of the water and began CPR as they took him to first responders waiting nearby, troopers said. He was medevaced to an Anchorage hospital, where he died, they said. The State Medical Examiner Office will conduct an autopsy.

Bing’s Landing is a popular fishing area and boat launch southeast of Sterling.
