Alaska SeaLife Center announces new president and CEO

The Alaska SeaLife Center this week announced Wei Ying Wong as the organization’s new president and CEO.

Wong has worked at the SeaLife Center since 2021, when she became the facility’s chief science and education officer, according to the announcement. She will step into the role as president and CEO on Monday.

Wong previously worked in executive roles at Washington Sea Grant, Woodland Park Zoo and the Philadelphia Zoo, the SeaLife Center said.

The organization’s president and CEO for the last 11 years, Dr. Tara Riemer, announced in September that she would step down. Riemer helped the SeaLife Center raise the $2 million during the pandemic as visitor counts plummeted.

The board of directors conducted a national search before selecting Wong for the position, the organization said. She was selected for her “passion for ASLC’s mission, her strong organizational leadership experience fostering a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture, and her depth of experience cultivating strategic partnerships that amplify mission impact,” the SeaLife Center said.
