Anchorage motorcyclist dies in collision with moose near Tok

An Anchorage man died Tuesday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a moose near Tok, Alaska State Troopers said.

Thomas Lake, 50, was southbound on the Tok Cutoff Highway roughly 30 miles from Tok, troopers said. The collision was reported to authorities just before 2:15 p.m.

Lake died at the scene. His next of kin have been notified, according to troopers. He was wearing a helmet and riding clothing, troopers spokesman Austin McDaniel said.

The moose died and was salvaged by an available roadkill salvage team in the area, McDaniel said.

The 125-mile Tok Cutoff Highway begins at the Richardson Highway in Gakona and ends in Tok, where it meets the Alaska Highway.
