Seward woman found dead near boat docked off Kodiak Island

A 33-year-old Seward woman was found dead Friday night near a boat docked in a Kodiak Island bay, Alaska State Troopers say.

Rubye Blake was located in the water near the beach in Uganik Bay about 100 yards from the vessel, troopers said in a release Monday. They responded from Kodiak after receiving a report at 10:45 p.m. Friday that a crew member for a hunting outfitter based off the boat had been found dead.

Few details were immediately available about the circumstances of Blake’s death. Foul play is not suspected, troopers said.

Troopers said Blake was the only adult aboard the boat. Her body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for examination, they said.

Blake was a highly regarded member of Alaska’s running community. She and her twin sister, Denali, grew up in a well-known Seward family, the Foldagers, and continued the family tradition of racing at Mount Marathon. As a teenager, Blake won two state cross-country running championships.
