Tracking COVID in Alaska: State reports uptick in hospitalizations and cases over past week

The number of COVID-positive patients hospitalized in Alaska increased by 20% over a seven-day period as reported cases rose slightly, according to updated data from the state health department.

Other highlights from this week’s update include:

• By Wednesday, there were 67 COVID-positive patients hospitalized around the state, an increase from the 56 reported by the state a week earlier.

• The state health department also reported 24 COVID-19 deaths it says occurred between January and June 2022 after a review of death certificates.

• 3,449 new cases were reported in Alaska over a seven-day period, an increase from 3,323 cases reported last week. That data doesn’t include at-home tests, which have become increasingly popular but don’t get reported.
