Woman dies in crash on icy Seward Highway near Turnagain Pass, troopers say

A Kenai woman died Wednesday when her car lost traction and slid into oncoming traffic near Turnagain Pass, Alaska State Troopers said.

Dominique Flenory, 31, was northbound in a 2001 Cadillac on the Seward Highway at Mile 71.5 when she slid across the centerline around 4:45 p.m., troopers wrote in an online statement. Flenory’s car was hit in the passenger door by a southbound Ford F150 pickup, troopers wrote.

The driver and passenger in the truck were transported by ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain said. Flenory was declared dead at the scene.

Troopers described the road as being covered in snow and ice. There were icy patches, packed and blowing snow on the road the next day, the state Department of Transportation reported.
