Kenai man dies after truck rolls on Sterling Highway, troopers say

An 82-year-old man from Kenai died Tuesday night when his truck rolled on the Sterling Highway, Alaska State Troopers said.

Eugene Darby was northbound in a 2004 Ford F250 when he “lost traction and slid across the highway and into the southbound ditch where the vehicle overturned,” troopers wrote in an online statement. He had been entering a curve on the highway at Mile 115, near Clam Gulch, troopers said.

Troopers were called to the area at 6:50 p.m., the statement said.

Darby was brought to the Central Peninsula Hospital and pronounced dead, according to troopers.

Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be involved in the crash, the statement said.
