1 dead, 7 injured in Parks Highway crash near Willow, troopers say

One man died and seven people were brought to a hospital following a three-vehicle collision on the Parks Highway Saturday, Alaska State Troopers said.

Just after 6 p.m., first responders were called to the Sheep Creek Bridge near Willow at Mile 88 of the highway, troopers wrote in a statement.

A 2010 red Dodge Ram pickup truck had been stopped in the northbound lane in front of a 2012 red Ford Fusion while the vehicles waited to turn left, troopers wrote. Then, a white 1986 Toyota 4-Runner going north “at a high rate of speed over the bridge” rear-ended the Ford Fusion, troopers wrote.

The Ford Fusion, which had five people inside, subsequently hit the Dodge Ram, which also had five people inside, troopers said.

Isaiah Harding, 20, of North Pole died at the scene, troopers said. He was an occupant of the Ford Fusion, according to troopers.

Seven people were brought to a hospital with injuries, troopers said. The highway was closed for more than five hours as troopers investigated the scene.

“All involved drivers were cooperative during the investigation which continues,” troopers wrote. “Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the incident.”
