Tok man dies after crashing ATV, troopers say

A 41-year-old man died early Monday after losing control of an ATV and crashing just outside of Tok, Alaska State Troopers said.

Raymond Elsner was driving on a path that parallels the Makinze Trail near the intersection with Schiovulli Street, troopers said in an online statement.

“Based on the yaw marks in the gravel, it appeared the ATV was swerving left and right for approximately 200 feet until eventually losing control and flipping,” troopers wrote.

The Tok EMS responded to the area with troopers around 3:10 a.m.

Elsner was not wearing a helmet, troopers said. Alcohol is believed to be a factor “due to a smell of alcohol at the crash scene and an alcohol container inside of the ATV,” troopers spokesman Austin McDaniel said in an email.

Elsner died on scene, troopers said.
