Federal, state and local law enforcement officers gathered outside the state crime lab in Anchorage on Friday to remember colleagues killed in the line of duty.
After brief remarks from Gov. Mike Dunleavy and Department of Public Safety Commissioner James Cockrell, the names of 68 officers were read and a bell rang after each one. An airport police honor guard then performed a 21-gun salute and a trumpeter played taps.
The governor has declared Saturday as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week of May 9-15, 2021, as Alaska Law Enforcement Week.
