The state on Sunday reported eight new COVID-19 cases in Alaska, most of them in Anchorage.
Five new cases were reported among Anchorage residents and one in Eagle River, according to the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. One was in Douglas. Juneau officials say the source of that infection remains under investigation.
A new case in Homer is related to a crew member on the ferry Tustumena.
The state late Saturday announced the case, which was diagnosed after the ferry docked in Dutch Harbor on Saturday morning. It left Homer on Tuesday. A crew member now in isolation came into contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.
The Tustumena is out of commission until further notice, state officials say. They plan to sanitize the vessel.
There were no new hospitalizations or deaths linked to COVID reported Sunday, according to the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. A total of 48 people have been hospitalized with the virus since March, including 7 patients with either positive or pending tests as of Sunday. One is on a ventilator.
Ten Alaskans have died with the virus.
The new cases bring the state total of resident cases to 544, with 382 recovered, for an active-case tally of 152.
Another 46 people who aren’t Alaska residents but are in state have tested positive including one new case identified in a seafood industry worker in Anchorage, state officials say.
