5 more confirmed Alaska COVID-19 cases reported Sunday; nearly half of state’s patients have recovered

Five new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Alaska on Sunday by state health officials, bringing the total number of cases statewide to 319. There were no new deaths or hospitalizations.

Three people in Anchorage tested positive for the virus Sunday and there was one case in both Palmer and Petersburg. Two of the people are between ages 30-39, one is age 40-49 and two people are 60-69 years old.

Six additional people had recovered by Sunday, bringing the total number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 to 153, or nearly half of the state’s confirmed cases. There were 1,030 hospital beds available across the state Sunday and nearly a third of the state’s 195 intensive care units were occupied, according to data from the state health department.

There were 245 tests processed Saturday and there have been 9,895 cumulative tests completed throughout the state.

Nine Alaskans have died from the virus, including a 33-year-old Wasilla woman who died last week.
