A four-vehicle accident briefly closed the northbound and southbound lanes of the Seward Highway at Beluga Point a day before the Fourth of July, but the road was reopened before 1 p.m. Wednesday, police say.
Minor injuries resulted from the accident, which was reported around 10:15 a.m.
The highway was down to one lane for about two hours. Major delays were expected until the scene is cleared.
The collision began when a northbound U-Haul van had a tire blowout, Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Kendra Doshier said in an email. The van collided with two vehicles, then hit a minivan head-on as the driver tried to get the U-Haul across the road to pull over.
All four adult passengers in the minivan were taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
