A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Southcentral Alaska north of Anchorage Friday morning, collapsing roads, breaking gas lines and snarling traffic across the city.
Schools
Anchorage School District - All students are safe after Friday’s earthquake, the district said. Anchorage schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday, and after-school activities have been canceled until further notice.

Mat-Su Borough School District: Schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday, with the exception of Glacier View, Trapper Creek Elementary, Talkeetna Elementary, Su Valley High School, Willow Elementary and Beryozova. School activities were canceled through Sunday.
UAA: The UAA campus is closed and all non-essential personnel should go home. Employees and students near campus who need shelter can go to Gorsuch Commons in the student housing complex. UAA and the Chugiak-Eagle River Campus will remain closed through the weekend.

Anchorage People Mover: The city’s bus service is closed for the remainder of Friday, as are the administrative offices.

Mountain View Library: OPEN
Chugiak-Eagle River Library: Closed for the day
Loussac Library: Closed for the day
Muldoon Library: Closed
Scott and Wesley Gerrish Library in Girdwood: Closed
Businesses
Carrs - All Carrs locations are open except Gambell Street and Eagle River. Gambell Street is expected to open this evening.
GCI: Core services are mostly unaffected, GCI announced, though power outages and heavy network usage may affect customer experience.
Crews are continuing to determine the full impact of the earthquake. Initial review shows that our core & wireless network, internet & cable TV are mostly unaffected, except instances related to regionalized power outages, heavy network utilization, & other local factors. 1/3
