Wasilla man cited for hunting grouse from Parks Highway

A Wasilla man was fined for hunting too close to the road in Denali State Park Friday, the Alaska State Troopers said.

A person walking at Mile 164 of the Parks Highway contacted Alaska State Troopers on Friday to report that a passer-by shot in the area of the road.

Troopers caught up with the driver described at Mile 200 of the Parks Highway, near Cantwell.

Bret A. Styers, 35, of Wasilla, told a wildlife trooper he was "shooting at a roadside grouse," according to a trooper dispatch.

Styers was cited for harvesting five grouse within a quarter-mile of the Parks Highway and inside the boundaries of Denali State Park.
