Anchorage police doing a welfare check Monday found two bodies in a wooded area behind the garage of a home on Hillside Drive.
Officers discovered the bodies off the 11000 block of Hillside Drive, near O'Malley Road, around 3:30 p.m. Monday, police said in a statement.
A half dozen police vehicles were parked along Hillside Drive Monday evening.
The police department's crime scene RV was parked down a narrow, unpaved driveway, but little else could be seen of the property from the road.
A state medical examiner vehicle arrived around 8:30 p.m.
The identification of the bodies and the causes of death will be determined by the state medical examiner, police said.
Officers found the bodies "during a second welfare check call for two people who lived at the residence," police said. "The first call happened (Sunday) evening."
During the first welfare check, officers did a "security check of the residence," police said. They found no one at the home and nothing suspicious, they said.
Officers returned to the home Monday after getting a second call. The second security check ended in the same results, police said. They expanded the security check to the rest of the property and found the bodies of a man and a woman in a wooded area behind the garage.
"At this time, there is no public safety threat to the community," police said.
The investigation is in its preliminary stages, police said.
