Alaska State Troopers want your help naming 2 new drug dogs

Alaska State Troopers need your help naming two new drug-detection dogs, choosing from a list of suggestions created by students statewide.

More than 1,000 students in about 70 classrooms across Alaska submitted names for consideration. The choices were narrowed down to three options for both dogs, which are currently being referred to as K9-A and K9-B.

Pup No. 1's options are Cisco, after the Arctic Cisco fish; S'eek, the Tlingit name for black bear; or M.O.C.H.A., an acronym for methamphetamine, opioids, cocaine, heroin, Alaska.

And pup No. 2's options include Nuna, "land" in both Yup'ik and Inupiaq; Blackhawk, like the helicopter; and Mak, short for Kachemak.

People wanting to take part in the naming can do so by visiting Alaska Gov. Bill Walker's Facebook page.
