Roommate of apartment fire victim dies in Seattle hospital

The roommate of a woman killed in the Royal Suite Apartments fire died Friday night at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to a spokeswoman.

Harborview's Susan Gregg said that Laura Kramer, 70, died on Friday. Gregg previously told Alaska Dispatch News that Kramer had been at the burn intensive care unit of the hospital since the day of the fire.

Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Renee Oistad confirmed Tuesday that Kramer was the third fatality from the Feb. 15 Royal Suite Apartments fire.

Oistad said Kramer, who lived in the same apartment as 63-year-old fire victim Vivian Hall, died of injuries she suffered in the fire.

The fire — which is still being investigated by local fire officials and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms — destroyed the Spenard apartment complex on Feb. 15.

Kramer's bedridden roommate, Hall, and a woman who jumped from a third-floor apartment, Teuaililo Nua, 38, had previously been identified by authorities as fatal victims of the fire.
