Brig. Gen. Laurie Hummel, adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard and commissioner of the Department of Military & Veterans Affairs, will host a Veterans Day ceremony at the Alaska National Guard armory on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
There will be open base access at the Arctic Valley-Fort Richardson gate. The ceremony is to honor the women and men who have served in the armed forces. The event will also include the presentation of the 2016 Governor's Veterans Advocacy Award.
Mat-Su
Mat-Su College hosts a Veterans Day tribute and reception, noon-2 p.m. Friday in the Glenn Massay Theater, 8295 College Drive, featuring Sen. Dan Sullivan. The national anthem will be sung by a member of the Mat-Su College Chorus. A POW-MIA table ceremony will be performed by the Wasilla High School's U.S. Air Force Junior ROTC. A flag-folding detail ceremony by Colony High School's U.S. Army Junior ROTC will be followed by light refreshments to honor all who served in times of war and peace.
