The Mexican consulate in Seattle will bring its mobile program to Alaska for two days later this week for both celebration and business.
The "consulate on wheels" — "el consulado sobre ruedas" — will issue Mexican passports, copies of Mexican birth certificates, and consular identification cards on Friday and Saturday, an official said.
The fun will take place Friday evening, when the consulate will host a small Mexican Independence Day event, recognizing the start of the country's war for independence on Sept. 16, 1810. The traditional music, food and events will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe church on Wisconsin Street from 6 to 8 p.m.
The work will take place at the downtown Anchorage building of Unite Here! Local 878, the hotel and restaurant employees union, at 530 E Fourth Ave., the consulate said.
The consulate will be open in the building from 8:30 a.m. until the last block of appointments at 4:45 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments can be made through the Mexitel call center at 877-639-4835 or online at https://mexitel.sre.gob.mx/citas.webportal/.
Roberto Dondisch, the recently appointed Consul of Mexico in Seattle, will travel to Alaska to oversee the consulate on wheels and meet with local officials.
