Fun events around Anchorage this week: A whole lot of live music

Master gardener plant sale Find great perennials from master gardeners, some of which are not available anywhere else. Acoustic and experimental sounds at the SEED lab — Songwriter Gregg Oakley will perform a set of new instrumental songs which evoke wide expansive landscape. Soundscape specialist David Betchkal will give an experiential demonstration of an active sound field. The evening will also feature Halyn Betchkal, an acoustician, wilderness ranger and musician who lives and works in Cantwell. Part of the exhibition “Listen Up: Northern Soundscapes.” Arrive at the SEED Lab at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, prepared to listen. $5, registration is limited. (111 W. The Super Serious, No Fun .5K Run — Tackle a grueling course that begins and ends Midnight Sun Brewing Co. and takes you around an entire city block. Conserve your energy with rest stops along the way and chat with Rage City Roller Derby skaters, then enjoy a beverage at a post-run celebration and prize raffle. 6 p.m. race registration and bib pickup; 6:30 p.m. race start; 7:30 p.m. awards ceremony, Wednesday, Aug. 18. $15-25.
