What to do this weekend: Scottish Highland Games, Pride and all the live music around Anchorage

You could go from opera on the Anchorage Museum lawn to a Scottish caber toss in Palmer to a Pride diva variety show, all this weekend. Or check out 29 bands in one day without ever leaving Van’s Dive Bar.

Korea-Alaska Friendship Day Festival — There will be food, music, games, taekwondo, a parade, cultural performance, calligraphy and face painting at this festival. Held at Dimond Center’s east parking lot (by H&M). 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

Scottish Highland Games — Join the Alaskan Scottish Club for dancing, piping and drumming, tug -o’ war, rugby, kilted mile, Scottish music, caber toss, vendors, tall tales, a gathering of the Scottish clans and families, salmon toss, a tea tent, short bread, Scotch eggs and basically all things Scottish. Live music

Those Guys AK — Anchorage’s Thursday night concert series Live After Five is back, with party band Those Guys AK playing country, rock and more. 5:30 p.m. Thursday. (Town Square Park)

Anchorage Opera on the Museum Lawn — Bring a lawn chair or blanket and kick back for a fun program of Gilbert & Sullivan tunes, Broadway and opera hits performed by luminaries of the local opera scene. Free. 5:30 p.m. Friday. (Anchorage Museum lawn)

She’s With Me (Melissa Mitchell Trio) — Soulful Alaska singer-songwriter Melissa Mitchell will perform in Town Square Park. If you’re into the likes of Patty Griffin and Susan Tedeschi, this is a show you’ll definitely want to check out. Free. 7 p.m. Friday.

Backyard Country BBQ — Now in its ninth year, this event has grown to cover two packed days of country music acts, including headliners Sara Evans, Easton Corbin and 2011 “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery. $55 per day. 3-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; see tixr.com for more details. Vaniversary party at Van’s — To celebrate Van’s Dive Bar’s third year in Fairview, there will be a showcase of 29 bands on two stages, ranging from folk to rock, punk and hip-hop, all in one day with no cover. Ava Earl — Known for her intricate fingerpicking and soulful melodies, Earl is about to release her fourth album. You’ll find her performing on the Anchorage Museum lawn at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Robin Hopper — Hopper is a mainstay of Alaska’s folk scene performs original music, Alaskana, blues, folk and “forgotten favorites from the ’30s and ’40s.” 7 p.m. Saturday. (Town Square Park)

Pride

Pride Trivia Night — Gather your teams (up to six people) and arrive early for food, prizes, pride cocktails, and more. 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the 907 Alehouse (8001 Old Seward Hwy.) Prizes for first, second and third places.

House Party at Williwaw Social: Rainbow Edition — Featuring DJ Fan Service spinning a mix of throwback and current hits, bangers and crowd favorites across all music genres. Fan Service will be blasting classic and current loud and proud anthems as well. 21 and over. Free. 10:30 p.m. Friday. (Williwaw Social, 609 F St.)

Cruisin’ with the Oldies — SAGE Alaska is a group dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender older adults. In this event, participants in this event will meet up, get in decorated cars and cruise off to local Pride supporter locations to take photos. Meets 9 a.m. Saturday at The Raven Bar parking lot. Pride Block Party — MoHagani Magnetek will host this family-friendly pride event featuring DJs, BIPOC queer artist vendor/booths, food and drinks available for purchase. 2-6 p.m. Saturday. (The Writer’s Block Bookstore & Cafe, 3956 Spenard Road)

Mad Myrna’s Pride party — There will be door prizes, performances, a contest and DJs on the dance floor. $10. 8 p.m. Saturday. (530 E. Fifth Ave.)

The Raven Bar’s annual underwear party — Featuring DJ Mike Mason. No cover. 21 and over. 9 p.m. Saturday. (708 E. Fourth Ave.)
