3-year-old boy drowns in Southwest Alaska, troopers say

A 3-year-old boy drowned after falling into Togiak Bay on Thursday, Alaska State Troopers said.

Two boys were playing near the shore of the bay when the 3-year-old fell into the water around 1 p.m., troopers spokesman Austin McDaniel said Friday. The other boy, who was 5 years old, went to get help and an adult pulled the child from the water, but he was unresponsive, according to troopers.

The boy was taken to the Togiak clinic, where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.

His body was sent to the State Medical Examiner Office for autopsy and his next of kin was notified, troopers said.
