PALMER — Mat-Su property owners must register online for an annual trash dumping coupon or forgo the discount.
In past years, all Matanuska-Susitna Borough residential property owners received a coupon by mail every spring that was good for $8 off at the Central Landfill or transfer stations over a three-month period.
Now property owners must register for the coupon through an online form. The $25 coupon is delivered by email and includes a QR code that will be scanned by borough staff.
Coupons are distributed one per household and can be redeemed at the Central Landfill near Palmer or transfer stations through March next year, officials said.
Eligibility is verified by matching property records to an applicant’s name, they said.
Online coupon registration closes May 31, officials said. Property owners who miss the registration period will not be eligible to receive a coupon, they said.
The Borough Assembly approved the $25 coupon in January. The change came after the borough offered two weeks of free residential trash dumping at the landfill and transfer stations in September 2023, a one-time program that exceeded cost estimates by more than double.
