Wasilla man faces manslaughter and other charges in fatal Parks Highway collision

The driver of a pickup involved in a fatal collision on the Parks Highway last week was arrested Friday and is facing manslaughter and other charges, Wasilla police said.

Twenty-nine-year-old Steven Brodigan of Wasilla was indicted Thursday on one count of manslaughter, three counts of third-degree assault and one count of driving under the influence, according to a statement from the Wasilla Police Department and online court records. He was taken into custody by police Friday and remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility, according to police and online records.

Wasilla police said that on March 27, a “dangerous driver” was reported to police just before the pickup truck heading north toward Wasilla collided with incoming traffic, killing 63-year-old Norma Kincaid. Police identified Brodigan as the driver of the truck.

Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicated that Brodigan’s truck “crossed through the continuous turn lane on the Parks Highway and hit an SUV traveling in the inside southbound lane head-on,” police said in an earlier statement.

Kincaid was the driver of the SUV; both she and Brodigan were taken to the hospital, and Kincaid died from her injuries while Brodigan was transferred to an Anchorage hospital for additional care, police said.

A third vehicle was heavily damaged but the driver was released from the scene without significant injuries, police said.
