Spring Carnival and Slush Cup

Friday-Saturday-Sunday; Alyeska Resort, Girdwood

The Alyeska Spring Carnival returns along with the famed Slush Cup for its 47th year. Friday’s festivities include music and a costume contest. On Saturday, there’s a vendor village, an Idiot Swim and, of course, the Slush Cup. Sunday’s events include the Dummy Downhill, Alaskan Gladiator and the Xtratuf Tug-o-War. Alyeska Resort will have commuter bus service from Anchorage to Girdwood available Saturday. Visit the resort’s site for full details.

Native Youth Olympics

11:30 a.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday; Alaska Airlines Center, 3550 Providence Drive

The Native Youth Olympics, launched in 1971, feature students from across the state participating in a number of traditional events. The games promote healthy lifestyles, positive self-esteem and leadership skills in the athletes, while maintaining and sharing Native traditions.

La Traviata

8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday; Discovery Theatre, 621 W. Sixth Ave.

The Anchorage Opera performs its final show of the season, the famed “La Traviata” by Giuseppe Verdi. The story follows Violetta and her attempt to find true love with Alfredo while trying to navigate the pitfalls of high-class society. Tickets start at $30.50.

Spring Garden Show

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; Midtown Mall, 600 E. Northern Lights Blvd.

There will be plenty of plants, seeds and supplies available at this show hosted by Alaska Master Gardeners Anchorage. The main hallway at Midtown Mall will showcase garden art and decor, and there will be plenty of information at booths from local groups, clubs, nonprofits and businesses.

Rage City Roller Derby

6 p.m. Saturday; O’Malley Sports Complex, 11051 O’Malley Centre Drive

The Devil’s Club and Sockeye Sallys face off in the final roller derby battle of the season, with some bruising action expected and an official afterparty at the Peanut Farm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for kids ages 5-12.
