WASHINGTON -- Same sex marriage is now legal nationwide, following a ruling issued by the U.S. Supreme Court Friday.
A long chain of court cases led the way to the Supreme Court, where Thursday justices ruled 5-4 that the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution requires that states license same-sex marriages and recognize legal marriages performed in other states. The decision reverses the ruling by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Alaska resident Rebecca Shaffer was in D.C. and captured this video of the moment the crowd outside the entrance to the court learned of the ruling.
