A UAF hockey player from Anchorage faces charges of first-degree sexual assault.
Nolan Youngmun, a 23-year-old who played high school hockey for Dimond, is charged with the on-campus sexual assault of a woman earlier this month at UAF's Cutler Apartments.
He was arrested Tuesday, according to UAF campus police, and as of Thursday afternoon he remained jailed at the Fairbanks Correctional Center.
Youngmun faces two charges from the alleged incident, which happened April 5 and was reported to campus police April 10, according to a report by the UAF Police Department.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, citing charging documents, reported that Youngmun and another man came to the victim's apartment to visit another woman early in the morning on Sunday, April 5.
According to the News-Miner, the victim awoke at 3 a.m. and saw Youngmun standing in her doorway, naked. She said Youngmun sexually assaulted her and that she repeatedly told him to stop.
The victim told police that Youngmun left her room after ejaculating and telling her not to tell anyone, the News-Miner reported. She said that when she left her room, Youngmun was sitting in the living room, still naked, and put his finger to his lips and said, "Shhhh," the newspaper reported.
Police recovered body fluids during their investigation, the News-Miner said. The newspaper reported that police recorded a conversation between Youngmun and the woman in which Youngmun at first denied that anything happened before saying that if something did happen, he didn't force it.
When interviewed by police, Youngmun said the sex was consensual but he didn't remember much of what happened, according to the News-Miner report.
The assault happened the same weekend as the UAF hockey team's end-of-season banquet, which was Friday, April 3.
Youngmun recently wrapped up a four-year career as a left wing for the Nanooks. He finished with eight goals, eight assists and 119 penalty minutes in 120 games. As a senior, Youngmun played 25 games, scored two goals and one assist and recorded 24 penalty minutes.
According to his biography on the UAF athletics website, Youngmun in high school was named Dimond's most inspirational player. Before joining the Nanooks, he played one season in the U.S. Hockey League in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and one season in the North American Hockey League in Wenatchee, Washington.
