A great horned owl is released back into the wild after being cared for by Bird Treatment and Learning Center on Saturday, August 22, 2015. Bird TLC says the owl was found injured in July on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richarson after the bird flew into a piece of machinery. The injuries required wrapping and sutures, but the owl was otherwise healthy. Bird TLC also released a merlin Saturday, as part of their Gone With The Wing, their annual bird festival held at their property on Old Seward Highway overlooking Potter Marsh. The event also featured informational booths from several wildlife organizations, as well as games, music and food.
